Title: This test Star Wars theme...
Post by: Test Administrator on July 30, 2015, 10:14:16 PM
In case anyone wanders across this site... I am current testing and building a theme and site design for fx-sabers forums...   hence the logo, etc...

this site can still be used for testing SMF 2.0.x features, and mods...

This theme is a significantly corrected and otherwise modified version of Bloc's Studio003 responsive theme

OK.

This is the modified Studio003 theme by Bloc

Fixed a bunch of code errors (which are actually present in all three studio themes and the alphacentauri theme)
replaced the new message icons (on the boardindex) with radius defined CSS

removed the newsbox
modified the logo/titlebox to include the saber background

modified the menu, significantly - making the basic menu clean with no excess options
added icons for the non-standard menu items

modified the message icons (first column of the messageindex)  -- these still need some love to make them look nice on a dark theme

added the theme changer option (top left) based on the older "enterprise" theme option (also by Bloc)

modified the display -- theme changer option will not appear on screens below 800px wide (portrait tablet and phone views)

Modified the CSS

Hey there thank you for getting it all in place and testing with the images I sent. 8)
I'll get the top headers resized to test with and come up with a cleaner look for
the crystal cave background as the concept works but needs a little work ;D

Now this is much better,  :D thank you for getting the images loaded up so quick
and making the new forum template to match to the header saber and background,  8)

Again I truly appreciate the continued help with the forums and think the members
will all be very pleased with new new look once it is live.  :D

It really looks like it should have all along ;)

to do, for the future....

modify boardindex.template.php and messageindex.template.php to convert the tables to responsive divs with a table-display CSS

I added the likes mod...   Not sure how well that will translate to the likes in 2.1 -- but we'll deal with that when we upgrade to 2.1 (eventually, after the gold release -- it's currently in beta)

The Live site is looking good, just wanted to remind about the recent posts view-able in the info center
and I did also notice it no longer shows who all is viewing a topic when you are in a topic.

In addition to, no longer shows who all is viewing a topic when you are in a topic. can that be turned on?

I did also notice it is hard to tell what is a stickied topic can those be colored? or just highlighted in some way?

Cool thank you, it actually looks like it is a very subtle different shade of grey
so I would think it can be specified for color or even if you want to do the icons
on the side in color? what ever you think will work and look best.

Ahh wait I see it now, had to refresh things ;)

That works as its just enough to make them noticeable but not dominating with to much contrast 8)

Something Important to implement I think would be that NEW members can not send or receive PM messages until they have 5 posts.

I think this will do 2 things

1. It will encourage new members to post and be active.
2. It may help cut down on those who simply come here waiting for new members and Pm them to join competing sites.

I have done that...  It is not a VISIBLE change (both "groups" are still called "No Force", but the 0-5 post count folks will not be able to PM

Very cool thank you, double checking that is to send and receive correct?

That way when one of the unscrupulous characters that tries to prey on a new member will get a message telling them they can't send a message
to the new member. that way if they really want to keep stealing people they will have to work harder at it and we might catch a few doing it.

Obviously I'm never against referring members to places that are legitimate requests but its the people that are here specifically to
take business away and cause problems that this will help discourage them form that behavior.

Thank you again and again

They can not SEND -- but they can RECEIVE....   after all - you want them to be able to read notices sent to them - especially if sent by a mod  - right?

Ahh I thought it would block both ways just for "general members" but that Mods or Admins could send messages.

The point of it is to keep general members from sending a brand new member a PM message that basically
tells them our site sucks and they need to go to a competing site.

We have run into this and my thought was that if a new member can't be lead astray immediately we will
keep more people from being influenced by those that don't like the rules here to talk trash and
convince them to leave.

I know it seems odd that this even exists but it does and while we will never stop all the bleeding
but maybe be able to cut down on it a bit.

Does that make sense and is it possible?

Or are we just chasing a ghost :D

hmmmmmmm.....

unfortunately, the settings are currently:
Read Personal Messages
Send Personal Messages

So - it is easy to turn off the ability to SEND...
However, the ability to read is either on or off... The system doesn't check the sender when allowing users to read their messages
... and it doesn't check the receiver when someone (who is allowed to send) sends them a PM.

I can look into it... but it looks like it might be somewhat complicated

Okay I understand that and it makes sense.

For now we may as well leave it as it was and allow then to send and receive once they log on
because we may actually loose customers "at this time" with a 5 post requirement because of
the movie and the urgency it creates  :-\

What I will do is talk to the others about and see what their opinion would be
on the current set-up for messaging and the 5 post requirement.

Ideally if it could...

Send Receive
To-From Admin (yes) default
To-From Mods (yes) default
To-From Members (no) 5 posts required

But as you say it may be complicated however it may be a good idea to look in to
if it can be done. (maybe an SMF modification that could be suggested?)

IF it will be a hassle don't worry and put it on the back burner
but I fear it may be necessary to do something to this effect in the coming months.

Sorry it logged me out while I was typing LOL

okay it did :D

Actually we need to set it back to the send and receive with no limit right now
because I just found an important message from someone with no posts ;)

and I know the Manufacturers get these a lot so it will rock the boat until we can
figure out how to make it send receive specific  ::)

not a bad Idea though? some security for forums like that wouldn't hurt and can
help fight spam bots or unwanted advertisers  ;D
